Run it back

And, we're live! Today (April 4th) marks the first day of the 2nd annual Csapo family virtual 5k.  Haven't quite locked down an official name.  We're looking at getting some shirts made up this year so I guess we should do that.   Here's the write up from last year .  We have 5 fewer people this year, but the numbers worked out so we could have teams of 5 again.  Another change is that Amy is running and Mila's not locked in her mom's house for 3 months solid.  So, she'll be one of our saunterers. Some sauntering "practice" the other day when it was 45 and windy out So, I'll do my best to keep the website  and this blog updated with teams and results as well as my reactions and everyone's pictures. I threw the team draw up here: My reaction on seeing last year's #1 runner and #1 saunterer on the same team Mila and I went out for a run/walk this morning and she was able to record her time.  (my better time came during yesterday's ru...

The best race of 2020 (Family Reunion Virtual 5k)

It's been almost a year since my last post  and what a year 2020 has been.  It would be an understatement to write that it's been eventful but that's what I'm going with.  There are a multitude of reasons that I haven't written, but more than a few that bring me back to the keyboard.  Not the least of which is a package my grandma (paternal) sent me the other day.  My grandpa (maternal) was an editor and columnist for the Flint Journal for many years.  He passed away when I was just a couple years old, so my best way of getting to know him has been through the saved columns.  A while back someone in the family (there are many suspects to choose from if you know the McHale family) got the idea to put together a sort of "greatest hits" collection of his columns and turn it into a book.  I've owned a copy for years now and have read through it more than a couple times.  That's how I've come to know Grandpa Terry and even my mom, aunts, and...

All Time MMA Rankings Part 2: Bantamweight

I know last time I wrote that I'd be putting out men's flyweight rankings but that was before I really looked into it.  uhh..  Looking over at FightMatrix's top 10 fighters, I've seen barely half of them fight.  I've never even heard of the guy at #2.  So, sorry Demetrious Johnson, but I'm not going to be able to accurately rank #2-5 in your division.  Look out for him on the P4P list though.  So, let's move on to the Bantamweights.  Honorable mention: Cody Garbrandt, Brian Bowles, Joseph Benavidez, Eddie Wineland 5. Urijah Faber photo credit: Sherdog Years Active: 2003-present Record: 35-10 Big League Record: 20-9 Championships: GC (2x, 2 defenses), KOTC (5 defenses), WEC (featherweight, 5 defenses) Title Fight Record: 15-8 (9-4 at bantamweight) vs champs record: 6-8 vs top 5 record: 1-4 Notable Wins: Dominick Cruz, Jens Pulver (x2), Brian Bowles, Raphael Assuncao Urijah Faber put the little guys on the map at a time when the UFC d...

All Time MMA rankings part 1 - WMMA

I know that this blog is "supposed" to be about running.  Truthfully I haven't felt like writing a whole lot about running as much lately.  That's why the number of entries has dropped a bit.  No, nothing's wrong, just nothing much new or exciting is going on in my life in terms of running.  It's A-OK.  I know that I'll still mostly focus on running, but UFC 241's results got me thinking of an old blog I wrote for in 2014.  I included all time rankings for a few MMA weight classes before we shut the blog down.  Here's my old logo though: I'll be honest, I don't know a whole lot about the history of women's MMA or about some of the smaller weights contested in Asia.  (Michelle Waterson notwithstanding)  Fight Matrix has 35 women on their all time open weight rankings and I only recognize about 20 of the names. So, unfortunately, I'm not really going to be able to give full listings if I break them out into weight classes.  What I...
