Run it back

 And, we're live!

Today (April 4th) marks the first day of the 2nd annual Csapo family virtual 5k.  Haven't quite locked down an official name.  We're looking at getting some shirts made up this year so I guess we should do that.  

Here's the write up from last year.  We have 5 fewer people this year, but the numbers worked out so we could have teams of 5 again.  Another change is that Amy is running and Mila's not locked in her mom's house for 3 months solid.  So, she'll be one of our saunterers.

So, I'll do my best to keep the website and this blog updated with teams and results as well as my reactions and everyone's pictures.

My reaction on seeing last year's #1 runner and #1 saunterer on the same team


Mila and I went out for a run/walk this morning and she was able to record her time.  (my better time came during yesterday's run)  My current "fear" is that Mila will become this year's mitomano as she finished 9 minutes faster than her estimated time and now the competitive juices are flowing.  Watch out Katie!

Fanciness, gardens, and you're a guey

 Day 4 was "supposed" to take place mainly outside. The forecast called for rain most of the day and, well, it looked like we would be running ourselves ragged to make the self-imposed time hacks. So, we made a little adjustment. We still decided to go to a couple different gardens. However, we needed breakfast first (let's be honest, it was second breakfast for this hobbit). We went to Confiteria La Ideal for a fantastic breakfast. I had thought it was a smaller place to grab a coffee and snack and then be on our way. However, we walked in and realized it's not that type of spot. The cafe originally opened in 1912 and was long considered the best example of porteno (coming from Buenos Aires) gastronomy for the best part of the 20th century. They closed their doors in 2016 but reopened in 2022 after a massive restoration project.  We also saw that we were way underdressed. Swag bag

 It's been a busy few weeks since I wrote my last post  about the state parks we've been visiting.  Well, we did it again.  I wanted to roll up our trip to Jordan Lake with an update on the Csapo Family 5k and a shortened write up from our in-person 5k.  So, let's get to it. We hit up state park #5, Jordan Lake, a few weeks ago.  Just a bit outside of Raleigh, the man-made Jordan Lake is the 7th largest lake in the state.  Upon its several inlets, the state park includes several campgrounds, boat launches, and recreation areas.  We wanted a 2-3 mile trail so we went with the red trail at Vista Point.  Many of the other trails were either different distances or accessible only to campers.  The red trail has an inauspicious beginning as it's located kind of near a rentable pavilion.  It took us a minute to find it as there wasn't much of a trailhead sign.  Furthermore, it is a path through the woods, not quite the obviously delin...

Running 2016

Hey, maybe I should write a 2016 year in review. Let's see... Biggest "story" of 2016 for me in running and in life was moving from San Angelo.  This was a cultural shift from a big city to a small cowboy city. From a multitude of large running groups and a solid group of reliable running buddies to a couple of different groups made up of mostly the same people.  From running most of my miles with Ryan to running most of my miles alone.  I got to take a bigger part in the local running community though.  Hey, I'm in charge of the San Angelo Road Lizards Twitter now! (@SAroadlizards, we have 10 whole followers!) Additionally I got to charge of the volunteers for a small 5k and am looking at race directing for the first time next year. What else happened this year...  Oh, I started this blog.  Then I abandoned it.  This will be my first post since August.  Granted, I've got a few mostly fleshed out but never published drafts sitting here waiting...
