Taking the Stairs

Note: I started this shortly after 9/11 but got caught up with school, work, and training. I don't have any personal connection to 9/11.  I absolutely remember where I was when I heard.  Mr. Burns' entrepreneurship class at the Genessee Area Skill Center, a kid named Brett told us but we didn't really believe him until Mr. Burns came into the classroom late.  I remember the outrage, the patriotism, and the unity.  But, it didn't really hit me close to home.  I didn't join the military in the patriotic furor that followed.  Let's be honest, I joined years later because it seemed like the last "good" career option I could think of.  I might be the same age, but I'm not really from that OEF/OIF generation.  I don't feel right when people thank me for my service, particularly when they assume that I'm one of those folks.  I've spent 10+ years in classrooms and office buildings.  The last 18 months or so my focus has been on the contin

Running in Place(s) 2.5

As I posted last , I tried to post a "Running in Place" about my trip to Omaha in mid August.  It got deleted after finishing, twice.  I included some of the pics of the nice trail system around Omaha in that last post.  That's why I'm calling this 2.5 instead of 2 or 3. I was afforded the opportunity to go to Monterey, California last week.  It was the first time I've been there since 2009 and I was pretty excited to head back.  When I was originally living in Monterey, I was still very much in my "martial arts, weight lifting, and eating/drinking whatever I want" style of fitness.  Yes, I started to gain weight and my fitness scores started dropping.  Still hadn't accepted my slower metabolism and what that meant.  I ran when I had to but that was about it.  Even tried making it all the way up Franklin hill a couple times, unsuccessfully.  Granted, who hasn't drunkenly stumbled up that hill or somehow made it up there without exactly knowing h

Ugh

I wrote up a Running in Place(s) 2 post for Nebraska. Twice.  Saved it multiple times.  left the computer to do other things before publishing.  Computer somehow deleted it all except the first couple of lines.  Twice.  I think that's Hermes telling me that I shouldn't post that one.  Doesn't mean I can't post some pics from that trip, right? we had a nice system of trails right behind our hotel in Omaha Maybe I'm tempting fate by posting pictures but we'll see in this "mash up" post.   running through the corn fields watching the sunrise come up one of the mornings was pretty foggy the trail system was pretty awesome, encompassing Omaha and some of its suburbs That trail system in the Omaha area, including the Papio and Keystone trails that I ran on, following rivers and creeks and link up with 120 or so miles of trails.   I'll save my "thoughts from a place/running in place" stuff for my next post, on Monter
