Southland Shuffle 2019, a San Angelo tour, motivation, and cross training all in one!

It's been a few weeks.  Eventful I'd say.  I haven't necessarily thought about writing about running, to be honest.  I've been enjoying my running (mostly, more on that later), but nothing much to write blog about. 400m repeats at 5:15 in the morning I have been working out consistently and enjoying it.  Lately, my goal has been 6 days a week with 2x a day workouts 4 of those days.  That's the goal, but life happens.  However, I've been able to be pretty close on that schedule.  I can tell I'm getting stronger, specifically with the improvements in my pull ups and burpees.  Most of all, I've been enjoying mixing up what I'm doing. tools of the trade To recap my goals, I want to get my 1-2-3 kettlebell circuit down under 16 minutes (currently 17:45), do a chin up hold for 45 seconds (currently at 24 seconds), get my 2 mile time down to 14:15 (at roughly 14:40 right now), get my 5k down under 22:30 (currently about 23:45), bench my b...

And on to the next one

I wrote last month about my new set of goals and how I'm re-focusing my running and general workout strategy.  I'm not sure if strategy is the right way to put it, but let's go with that, shall we?  My brother Andy, put me on a 6 week progression workout that involved high weight, complex lifts (squat, deadlift, bench press, and overhead press) interspersed with core workouts, rowing, air assault bike sprints, and my normal easy group runs.  Mila did most of the workouts with me. she almost looks bored with that amount of weight At the beginning of January, I set my baselines: Bench (7 reps) 125 pounds Overhead Press (7 reps) 90 pounds Squat (1 rep) 285 pounds Deadlift (1 rep) 275 pounds I also had to take a practice Air Force PT test.  Here's how it turned out: 43 push ups (1 minute) 54 crunches (1 minute) 10:50 1.5 mile run We had fun doing the workouts and I was able to do 90-95% of the schedule.  There were a couple days when illness, time, o...

Uhhh... Ooops

I ran two races in the last week or so and committed a couple major errors that can be boiled down to the same thing - poor preparation.  A face only a Mila could love.  One of my lunch time heat runs hoping to get ready for the summer heat The San Angelo Relay For Life was Friday May 11th at the Spur Arena here in San Angelo.  The Spur Arena looks like where they have rodeo events also.  (Not Mila's thing so I've not gone)  Relay For Life San Angelo was able to raise over $188,000 for cancer research, $8,000 over their goal.  Team RWB hosted the Pia Cullens Memorial 5k race, with Tim Smith heading it up.  Pia was a Team RWB member that unfortunately lost her battle with cancer last year.  I only got to meet her a couple times but she was pleasant to talk to.  Her husband Bill is a retired sports writer for the San Angelo Express Times and it's an honor when he compliments my blog.  He can be seen all over San Angelo every weekend...
