Bunny Run 2019

This weekend was the Habitat for San Angelo Humanity Bunny Run.  The race normally takes place around Easter (that's how it got its name), but was postponed twice due to bad weather.  So, instead of a starting temp in the 50s, we were in the upper 70s.  The double reschedule also seemingly affected the attendance, with maybe 25-40 runners at the start.  The course is a San Angelo favorite, going around Santa Fe park and following the riverwalk Kid's Kingdom  (photo credit: Discover San Angelo) up to Central High school.  The 10k course followed the riverwalk under the 306/67 loop before heading back to the start/finish line at Kid's Kingdom (a local playground). Since I've been mostly out of commission for the past six weeks,  I really just wanted to see what I could do for a 5k.  The training program I semi-randomly picked  is saying I should be under 24 minutes if I'm trying to shoot for sub 22.  Right now, my goal is to see if ...

Charge of the Eagles

One mile, then another mile, and another mile onward, All around the U S of A Ran the thousands. "Forward, Eagles! Charge to celebrate freedom!" we said. Into the American heartland ran the thousands. So, Tennyson I am not.  Sorry Mila, there's no lordship in my future.  Odd that a British poet immediately came to mind when thinking about a celebration of US veterans.  Does that make me a loyalist?  I sure hope not.  I'd have some splainin' to do at work. The Team RWB Eagle Charge took place yesterday, on the 4th.  It's sponsored by Wal-Mart and proceeds go to Team RWB veterans outreach and assistance programs.  (For my 2016 write up about Team RWB when I'd first joined the group, please  see here. )  Last year, over 1700 Eagles charged at 67 locations around the country and we got a pretty cool shirt.   Just as last year, our local San Angelo chapter decided to use the Christoval VFD Firecracker 5k for our ...

I can feel it coming back again

(If you sang the title in your best "Live" voice, you'd be correct.)  I had that thought during a conversation with a couple different friends lately.  One was lifting while I was on the treadmill (hey, it's over 100 degrees outside!) and asked what I'm training for.  what happens when I run in 100 degree weather while wearing a tank top He seemed a bit surprised that I didn't have a specific race coming up as I was doing a hard tempo workout.  Another friend has been texting me updates on her daily runs.  I think she does this to mainly keep herself accountable but it serves in motivating me too.  As in "Well, if Jammie got up early to run, I might as well at least hit the treadmill for a few miles..."     Between the two of them, it's given me the itch to train for a big "A" race again.  I am starting to look forward to waking up early on the weekends, feeling a bit beat up, just to go run for hours. I look fo...
