San Angelo 5k rankings

As I mentioned in my last post ( Trek 4 Trykes ) I've been working on some San Angelo runner rankings over the last few weeks.  I guess I have to do something while not in class.  I'm going to start with the 5k runners today.  These are the folks I'm recruiting if I ever go back down to San Antonio for the Carrabba's 20K relay or American Hero 25K relay. Some notes on how I got these rankings together -  The premise behind the rankings is answering the following question; if all of Tom Green County lined up for a race tomorrow, what would the finishing order be? I dug through as many San Angelo area race results as I could from 2015 - today. I'm taking into consideration runners' best times, head to head and recency/consistency along with just knowing from who I run with. 5K is a particularly hard race to rank.  There are many people in town that I know would be on the list,  but I don't have any times for them.  Katherine Ward, Shannon Corona, and Jaco

Trek 4 Trykes 5k (a.k.a. Mila won her division)

Today's race was an interesting one.  Mila and I ran the Concho Valley AMBUCS Trek 4 Trykes 5k on the Red Arroyo trail.  This is the first year that they have put the race on.  Between that and the fact that it not being a Road Lizards race, I wasn't expecting a big turn out.  When we showed up for registration, we were numbers 30 and 31.  I did have one more come from my base/Team RWB group.  The race was to start at 9 am and it was already getting hot.  Mila was pumped though. I wrote about running in the heat and exploring the Red Arroyo Trail last year ( Hot Hot Heat and Doing Some Exploring ).  When she started this training cycle a few months ago, Mila had been shooting for a new PR.  Her previous PR was set a couple years back at Carrera's Red Run on a cold and rainy day.  That day she ran a 34:40, her best this year had been 38:45 during her Beach to Bay leg.  It was a promising run since she was pacing herself for 4.2 miles and it was hot and muggy that day.

Vacation thoughts

We came back from touristing early(ish) tonight and I'm still wide awake watching some UFC fights.  I think Mila's knocked out.  We've been walking a lot the last couple of days (over 9 miles today alone!) and it's wearing her down I think.  We got here on Tuesday and spent the first few days with my grandma, great aunt, aunt, and cousin.  It was great to see them, especially my cousin Connor who I haven't seen in... 10 years?  We did a lot of the normal touristy things, including Arlington National Cemetery and all of the monuments.  One thing I noticed was ALL the runners.  Everywhere you looked, there were people running around.  We even had a shirtless dude stop in front of us while we were eating lunch on a bench to do some stretches before continuing on his run.  I think that was for my grandma's benefit. Mila (correctly) talked me out of bringing my running clothes.  This neighborhood isn't all that runnable and I would likely get lost.  My phone ha

2 races to catch up on

As I wrote yesterday ( A lil sumpting ),  I haven't had the time to write the last couple of months.  So, I wanted to catch up on the last two races I've run, including today's Run in the Sun. Two weeks ago, we ran the Beach to Bay in Corpus Christi.  It was a bit of a last minute deal, as Anne even got the team registered after the deadline.  But, registration was free (she won it by answering a trivia question about her favorite politician) and we had a free spot to stay right on the beach.  How could we pass that up?  This is the 4th consecutive year I've run Beach to Bay ( Beach to Bay ).  Honestly, we didn't plan to do it.  It's on a Saturday morning and is something like 375 miles away so I have to take a day of leave to even go.  But, like I said, we got a last minute call and I didn't have anything to do at work that Friday so... we headed down to Corpus after meeting Ryan for a quick dinner in San Antonio. We ran for team Dystonia Warriors wit
