Peru has been at or near the top of our "to visit" list for years. We even got to the preliminary planning stages a couple of times. However, both times political unrest and visitor restrictions at Machu Picchu convinced us to go somewhere else. If I remember right, our 2024 trip to Argentina was instead of Peru. This year, we were "supposed" to go to Germany. I even had the trip approved at work, going through ALL the hoops. However, we had to switch it up only a month out. Germany was out, Peru was in. One of the first things we needed to do was get our Machu Picchu tickets. Once that was set, we could build our trip around that date. With only 5,600 visitors allowed per day, which is 1/10th - 1/2 of the other 7 Wonders of the Modern World (except Petra). From there, we decided to spend a few days in Lima before going to Cusco for a few more days then coming back to Lima to catch our flight back.
