Go buy stock in Vaseline and ice. In fact, I think that huge Delaware-sized iceberg broke off because even it knew - training has begun. Ever since the Houston Marathon (disappointed write up
here) and my PT test (hectic write up
here), I have been running solely for fun. I have done a few races here and there and lead a PT session or two per week, but there has been no set goal race to train for. I even entertained the idea of completely stopping working out and also eating terribly just to see how long it would take me to get to 200 pounds. (You know it'd be funny.) That all stops tomorrow. Tomorrow I start my training calendar for the
Wild Hare 50 Mile race on November 18th. I plan on keeping my blog updated with my training for two reasons - to hold me accountable and to encourage any other local runners looking for someone to train with. If I post it on here AND my Facebook group, then I have to do it, right? Please do me a favor and check in on how I'm training. ESPECIALLY if your name is Jason or Anne. They've hopefully begun their training for the same race. I'm not sure about my "old" training partner Ryan but hopefully he'll trudge through it with me. For my training, I did the ole "Google and customize" method. I have to maintain my two PT sessions a week until our squadron gets to 100% pass rate. (I can hope, right?) I can't pull out of my Team RWB Thursday night runs either. I'll just have to tweak my mileage on those days by showing up earlier, staying later, or doing a 2 run day. I also need to get back to being more strict on my diet. I'm around 170 right now and I want to be down at 160 come race day. This means cutting back on sugar, mostly. I tend to try and follow a primal diet where I get a lot of "good" fats (coconut, avocados, some nuts), most of my carbs coming from veggies and some tubers (sweet potatoes, yucca, potatoes), and sugars coming mostly from fresh fruits and maybe some honey. I had great success with it last year, so I'm hoping for similar results this year.
All right, here's what I'm looking at this week:
Monday - rest. Yep, starting my training by doing homework instead of working out
Tuesday - Circuit training in the morning, 3-4 mile trail run with the road lizards in the afternoon
Wednesday - 400m and 200m repeats
Thursday - lunch time lifting, 3 easy miles w/Team RWB
Friday - 3 easy miles w/ the road lizards
Saturday - 8 easy miles
Sunday - 5 easy miles
Anyone want to come with me?
On my last "free running" day today I went on a 9 mile run mostly along the Concho river with a jaunt up into one of the nicer old neighborhoods of San Angelo. Jon and Dan started with me before going their separate ways. It was nice to have someone there at least for the start to get me going in a good mood. I also saw Captain Ward Fuh Lie Ing (and with a huge smile) out there.
